The IN-HBPA provides much needed and meaningful support to Thoroughbreds in Indiana!

Friends of Ferdinand, Inc. (FFI) would like to extend our sincerest thanks and appreciation to the Board of Directors and Membership of the Indiana Horseman's Benevolence and Protection Association (Indiana HBPA) for their recent donation. These funds are being used to bring several new Indiana bred and/or Indiana-raced thoroughbreds into the program and will support their direct expenses of rehabilitation, retraining and adoption. These horses are all horses who have either sustained injuries during the ongoing thoroughbred meet at Indiana Grand, have run through their conditions and were retired in lieu of continuing their race careers at lower levels, or were identified early on as non-competitive on the track. Look for these horses to become available for adoption in the coming months!

We want to recognize the connections of each of these horses for providing excellent care of their horse while at the track and retiring them appropriately and thoughtfully to Friends of Ferdinand, to ensure their long-term safety and well-being. For these horsemen, the Indiana HBPA has enabled an opportunity for their athletes to retire and transition to 2nd careers without worry for their futures. Joe Davis, President of the Indiana HBPA said "we are just happy to be able to help."

Mike Brown, Executive Director of the Indiana HBPA says that "we recognize that the support of equine lives after racing is an important and expensive endeavor. We appreciate your work. In particular, we applaud your dedication in establishing and maintaining this program and the many ways it serves Indiana horsemen and women."

The Indiana HBPA functions as the state-level chapter of the national HBPA and represent the horsemen on the backside of Indiana Grand, including owners, trainers, grooms, pony riders, stall help, hot walkers and others. The nearly 4,000 members of the Indiana HBPA are led by a volunteer board of directors, dedicated to one constant core value: horsemen helping horsemen. The Indiana HBPA lives that value every day.

Friends of Ferdinand Inc. (FFI) is an Indiana-based non-profit which strives to provide ex-racehorses with the retraining they need to find steady homes beyond the racetrack. Horses that have gone through the FFI retraining program have landed successful second careers as eventers, hunter/jumpers, dressage mounts, trail horses, and more. FFI, with the motto “retired from racing, not from life”, is the only equine program in Indiana that is dedicated to racehorses and accredited by the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance. http://www.friendsofferdinand.com
